Why I Love Art

Mon Feb 16, 2009, 12:09 AM
I love art.
When I say that though, I really really mean it. I love looking at the images, models, structures, etc. that other people have created and absorbing their beauty. Each individual piece captures the beauty of the person who created it and I love that. Art can move people and inspire people to do things they never thought possible. I really believe that. It could be a photo, a painting, a piece of writing, a song, a dance, a building, a piece of pottery, a clothing item, an ad, a graphic, a drawing, a piece of wood, metal or glass work...the list goes on. We might not realize it, but almost everything around us is a piece of art.
The little things that inspire people...make them smile, make them cry, make them mad, make them realize something...all of it is some form of art. Our whole world, the people, the nature, the science, everything in existence, is God's artwork. We are surrounded by artwork...and I genuinely believe that art changes people. Art isn't just painting and drawing. It's not just a picture. Art is the music of the soul. (My personal quote & life philosophy). The house you live in was designed by an architect, built by a carpenter, turned into a home by the interior designer in all of us. The clothes you wear were designed by someone, whether it was Oscar de la Renta or some man named Kelly in a warehouse making generic t-shirts and jeans. Someone thought up and brought to life the clothes you live in. The books you read...the writer was an artist. The websites you go on, Facebook, Myspace, Youtube...all created by a web designer, an artist. Actors, models, musicians, they're all artists of popular trade. They have the power to inspire people in one of the most direct ways possible: through the media. It's almost baffeling to think of everyone as an artist, even yourself, but everyone is.
Most importantly, God is the artist of the entire universe. He is the artist of literally everything in existence; everything we know and see. In the words of John Lennon, "there's nothing we can known that can't be known, nothing we can see that isn't show". If God doesn't create it, we won't know or see it. He has given us the power to create. Art is
SO important to me. I thank God with all my heart for the talent he's given me. I love drawing and painting, even writing, and taking pictures...the basics when you think of art. But it's so much more than that. I can't stress that point enough. Picasso once said that "all children are artists. the problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." People...we are all artists. I think that it is our natural instinct to create, whatever it is that we create. I think that as human beings we should never ever stop creating. When you create you are showing everyone else a little piece of yourself. If everyone in the world created (whatever they choose to create) we could all know
each other. Art is a beautiful thing. You can't hate it. Art is someone's opinion, someone's past, someone's vision for the future...it's so much bigger than people make it out to be and I am so excited, and honored, and proud to have the talent that I have. It's amazing to know that one day, maybe even now, I can paint, draw or write something that will inspire change in someone or many someones...that is truly awesome. And that is why I love art so, so
much.

What do you want to know? If you want to meet people, check out the chats and forums. In the forums, look around a bit before posting -- off-topic madness will get you nowhere. I'd recommend watching your relevant Gallery Moderators (GMs) if you want to get involved in the traditional art community (or whatever sort of art you do) -- see =stafflist for a list of all the GMs by the galleries they moderate. Also, just browse art! Watch other artists and keep posting your own work. Leave comments and critiques. Add favorites. You'll pick up watchers yourself.

By the way, you have to hit the 'reply' button in my comment window. You commented on your own profile here, and I wasn't notified... I came back to your page and saw this. Just for future reference.

:) have fun!
